Olde Stone House Village in Washington Township to host flea market

The Olde Stone House Village in Washington Township will open up to bargain hunters and antiques shoppers one June 8, when the township's Historic Preservation Commission holds its second annual Flea and Antique Market at the village.
From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., the village will host residents looking to unload some of their old things, as well as local vendors selling antiques and other goods.
Chairman of the Historic Preservation Commission Nick Appice said he's hoping the event grows even more this year, after the first one was a big success. This year marks the second since Appice took over the historic commission, and set up a full schedule of community events at the historic village from April to December.
"This went really well last year," Appice said. "We'll have a food vendor, you can browse, grab a snack or a hot dog."
While many of their events collect a small fee that goes toward the upkeep and revitalization of the village — which houses a relocated collection of historic buildings from the township's more than 175-year history — the flea market is free of charge. However, Appice stressed that no shoppers would be allowed in until 8 a.m.
They have about 20 tables registered, but have plenty of room for more, he added. Spots for individuals at $10, and $15 for any type of professional vendor, dealer or local representative. Anyone interested in signing up should emailTownshiphistory1836@gmail.com or call (856) 227-9017 by June 4.
After the flea market, the village will host a two-day "Living History" event on Aug. 17 and 18, featuring Civil War re-enactors camping and demonstrating era-supplies and weapons.
"That's going to be really cool. There's going to be period-time Civil War soldiers dressed up, an encampment to see how they lived, demonstrations of some of the muskets and possibly one of the big cannons," said Appice, who added a new commissioner's involvement in re-enacting spurred the event. "It's the first time we're doing it ... these people are stoked."
