A few hundred classic and antique cars will rev-up car enthusiasts during the 11th Annual Spark Plugs Car Show and Swap Meet this weekend.
The swap meet is 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday at James F. Atchison Park, 58000 Grand River in New Hudson. The car show runs 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a “D B Drag” challenge from 2-3 p.m.
Money raised will bwnwfit the Wounded Warrior Project, providing programs and services to severely injured service members, and the Lyon Township Community Chest, offering food in emergency situations for those in need. The entrance fee for the show is $15, and visitors are asked to make a donation. Spark Plugs is comprised of about 40 members who live in the South Lyon area, and the group has been active in the community since 1955.
“We do the show to raise money for our charities that we pick every year,” said Kris Marinelli, Spark Plugs car show chairman. “Last year I think we had 1,000 or more spectators.”
With all makes and models welcome, the show offers a wide variety of vehicles to be seen, added Paul Peters, Spark Plugs Michigan Hot Rod Association representative. In addition to the classic vehicles, there will be displays by Pratt Miller Collector Car Restorations, Hines Park Ford, Feldman Automotive, and R-Sounds and Security. Other local sponsors are Leo’s Coney Island and Miners Barber Shop.
A car corral will feature local vehicles for sale, a bouncy house will be available for kids and music will be by Fast Eddies Band. Peters will deejay and Ryan Talaga will perform as Elvis. Food vendors will be on site and 50-50 raffles will take place throughout the event.
