Texas Tumbleweed Trade Days, a monthly flea market and festival that takes place on the last weekend of every month, will hold its first ever Freedom Fest beginning next Friday, June 28.
Freedom Fest will be an eight day music, flea market and swap meet event ending on Saturday, July 6. Derek Duncan, creator of Freedom Fest, said he decided to create the festival to bring more music to the city of Marshall.
“We just felt the need to bring more entertainment to Marshall,” Duncan said.
Duncan said on Memorial Day weekend, the idea to have a music festival popped into his head and that he’s been working nonstop since to make it a reality. Vendors will open at 9 a.m. every day and live entertainment will begin at 7:30 p.m. each night unless otherwise noted.
“We’re looking for a fantastic turnout,” Duncan said. “Everyone I got coming in is playing for the tip jar so we’re hoping the people of Marshall will come out and support this thing because we depend a lot on Marshall.”
Sixteen different vendors and counting, for those interested in having a booth at the event, will be at the Freedom Fest selling everything from Western antiques to Mary Kay cosmetics.
Duncan said he hopes to make this an annual event if he receives a good response from the crowd.
“We’re really trying to make this a working event not just to help Texas Tumbleweed Trade Days but to also have good clean fun for the city of Marshall around the fourth,” he said.
Musicians scheduled to play during the fest include The Attic Landscape, Buck “The Big Man” Helton and more.
The event will be held at 3422 Hwy 59 N. just north Loop 390. Duncan said he encourages vendors interested in selling items to contact him at (903) 930-5115 with spaces costing $20 for all eight days. For more information visit www.texastumbleweedpoetry.com.
