Some years it’s rainy and cold and other years it’s hot and dry, but this weekend is expected to be sunny and pleasant when the fall Pulaski County Flea Market opens Saturday.
Considering the number of rainy days this summer brought, Dublin Lions Club members should be pleased the early weather forecast looks so promising for this popular event the group has sponsored for decades.
Thousands of visitors from near and far come out to New River Valley Fairgrounds, on Route 100 two miles north of Dublin each spring and fall to see what the 800-900 vendors have for sale. This weekend’s market will be held Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
Be sure to wear your comfortable shoes and plan to spend hours perusing the wide variety of wares, including crafts, antiques, tools, books, rugs, baskets and more.
And, of course, there will be food galore. From the ever-popular Lions Club “Lion Dogs,” to chicken on a stick, funnel cakes and tornado potatoes, there will be something for every appetite.
Proceeds from the flea markets and Lion Dog sales help to raise around $40,000 for the club’s projects. The Lions help buy eyeglasses and hearing aids for the area’s needy and also provide assistance to area non-profit organizations such as Pulaski Daily Bread, American Red Cross and Fairview Homes.
Admission is $1, but children under age six are admitted free. There is no charge for parking.
The club also holds a Christmas Craft Show at the fairgrounds each year. It is slated for Nov. 2, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., this year.
